Mike and Suzy Celebrate 10 Years of Marriage:

It feels as though we’ve lived a hundred lives together. And in some ways, we have. In our ten years of marriage, we’ve grown into a couple I’m wildly proud of. We aren’t the same Mike and Suzy who got married in 2013. Many things have changed, but truthfully, I like to think we’re more ourselves right now than ever before. We know ourselves better than we did back then, and we for sure know each other better than we did back then.

This blog post is to honor and celebrate our 10 years together by reminiscing and sharing our wedding photos. If you don’t know the story, here’s a quick version of how we met.

How We Met

We met for the first time while we both worked at Target in Mesa, Arizona. I have a vivid memory of one of the first times we met…I was in the breakroom and Mike walked in wearing girl jeans and a TWLOHA shirt and long swoopy hair. I was immediately smitten. But we were 16 and 17 and he was dating someone else. We became Myspace (!!) and Facebook friends and after my short seasonal time at Target, we kept in touch online.

We met for the second time during my last semester at ASU. We ran into each other at a conference in California (while we were both living in Arizona). Out of thousands of people attending this conference, Mike got in line behind me at the onsite Starbucks. I pretended not to see him, convinced he wouldn’t recognize me. Eventually, just before I ordered, Mike tapped me on the shoulder and said hi. He totally recognized me and immediately asked for my number. And honestly, after that we were inseparable. We had our first date a week later and before we knew it we were saying “I Love You” and looking at rings. As the ol’ saying goes, we just knew. My intuition said go for it, and I’m so glad I listened.

The Wedding

On a foggy day in November of 2013, we had an intimate wedding in my best friend’s backyard in San Francisco. It was the most perfect day we could ask for. Meghan (aforementioned bff) curled my hair, my mom painted my nails, and I did my own makeup. It was low-key, easy, and exactly what we wanted it to be. The garden backyard seemed to have been perfectly designed to host a wedding ceremony, complete with a vine-covered archway. We explored the city for our portraits, I cried my eyeballs out during toasts, and we danced the whole night. It was a literal dream come true.

I could go into detail about every part of the day but honestly, the photos speak for themselves. We loved having my dream photographer, Kinsey Wilder, to document and celebrate alongside us. Back then, I was a hobbyist photographer and while I didn’t have a lot of photo experience, I knew she was the one. She captured the day so perfectly. Second to marrying Mike, choosing Kinsey was the best decision I made that day. 😉

The most special thanks to every single person who helped make our wedding dreams come true. It was us in the most perfect way. I wouldn’t change a thing.

To Tara and Kevin, thank you for opening your home and for hosting our wedding. Thank you to Jackie for making our cake; Chris for cooking me breakfast and dinner for everyone; Renee for making my jewelry, garter, clutches, and flower crown. Thank you to Dave and Alice for ensuring our families were present. Thank you to both our parents for making to trip to SF and supporting us in every way possible. Thank you to our friends for coming all the way from Arizona.

It was everything we dreamed of and more.

Happy 10 years babe!
