What to Include in Wedding Detail Photos
My favorite photos to take on a wedding day are the detail photos. There’s something so beautiful about capturing the specific details that each couple has handpicked to encompass their unique style together. There’s a neverending spectrum of color palettes, textures, mementos, invitations, heirlooms, antiques, and so many other items that can really make detail photos all their own.
But how the heck do you choose the details that capture your personal style as a couple? Sounds a little stressful, right? Don’t stress, babe. I got you! Here are my best tips for choosing items to include in your detail photos and inspiration from some of my favorite weddings.

1 | Use Your Wedding Invitation
Use those wedding invitations and save the dates! Whether your wedding suite is custom-designed, handcrafted, or ordered online, your invitation suite will be the backbone of your detail photos.
Pro Tip: Save two copies of your paper goods (envelopes and all!) for your photographer and they’ll style and create a work of art for you!

2 | Personalized Items
Personalized items are what really make these photos yours. Include all the accessories that you’ll use for the big day and then some. Here are some ideas of what couples use:
Shoes, earrings, bracelets, perfume, veil, hairpiece, garter, ring box, handkerchief, family heirlooms, vows, and wax seal stamps.
Pro Tip: Have both your rings and your fiance’s rings together and ready for details!

3 | Flowers
Adding a boutineer, bouquet, or loose flowers to your detail photo will make all the difference. Blooms add color and tie in your wedding colors for a cohesive look that will compliment your invitation suite and personal items.
Pro Tip: Ask your florist for a handful of loose blooms. This will give your photographer plenty of options for styling!

Bonus Tip for Couples
The night before the wedding, take all your details and place them inside a shoebox. This will make for an easy hand off to your photographer and help keep your timeline on track. 😉
Bonus Tip for Photographers
A great way to add a little something extra to your detail photos is ribbon. Ribbons come in all colors and material, from chiffon to silk to linen. Gather a small inventory of a variety of colors and choose the best color for your couple and their details. A few of my favorite places to get ribbon are Illume Silks, Honey Silks, and The Slow Cult.
Lastly, take a peek at these photos for inspiration!
