There are many aspects of being a wedding photographer that I love, the amazing couples, flexible hours, endless weddings, traveling, the list goes on. But it isn’t always glamorous, it can be lonely sometimes. Community doesn’t come easy amongst small business owners but I’m SO grateful to have found a one-of-a-kind tribe of humans who are kicking ass doing what they love: Tuesday’s Together.
I’ve been attending Tuesday’s Together for almost two years, almost the entire time our Phoenix chapter has been around! A friend invited me and next thing ya know I’m sitting around a table of artists, influencers, florists, photographers, plus so many more! Being a part of Tuesday’s Together has radically changed my path as a photographer and truthfully, I would be in a very different place in my business if it weren’t for the community I’ve found here. These are the women who are my biggest cheerleaders, who support and encourage rather than feast on jealousy and comparison. They’re the ones I call on when I’m having a rough day or need some perspective. And when I have a crazy idea (which happens a lot!), they confirm that crazy idea and tell me to go for it anyways. They’re my people.
Several months ago a volunteer position opened to be a co-leader in Tuesday’s Together. This was something I had been wanting to do for about a year, but the timing was never perfect; I always seemed to have too much on my plate. But this year, I’ve tried to be intentional with the sessions, weddings, and extra things on my calender, and it finally felt like I could take this on without feeling overwhelmed. The best part? I get to co-lead with the very friend who FIRST invited me to join Tuesday’s Together. How rad is that?! Ps, shameless plug for my amazing co-leader, Lauren!
Phoenix has so many Tuesday’s Together members that we actually have 3 chapters, which I love! And after a ton of preparation and planning, I finally held my very first meetup just a few weeks ago in the East Valley. Our monthly topic was SEO, so we had SEO + social media expert Sherree share her knowledge with us, plus we had delicious cupcakes from Floured Cupcakes and S’moresgasboard, and drinks provided by Showit. I love how our community not only attends but participates in our local meet ups. This is what community is all about.
If you’re a Phoenix creative or small business owner, we’d love to have you join us! Check out our facebook group here!
