I’m excited to be highlighting another killer local small business!
If you missed the latest post on florist Andy Castano, be sure to read it here!

Blake and Katrina have a one-of-a-kind business known as Scottsdale Farm Tables! On the weekends you can find them building and staining tables, shooting weddings, or hanging out by the pool with their kiddos. They’re coming up on their 1 year anniversary of moving to Phoenix from the PNW and I’m psyched to be sharing more about The Amburgey’s and their thriving farm table business!

Scottsdale Farm Tables The Amburgey's

I first met Katrina last fall at one of my favorite local coffee shops, Liberty Market. We had a small meet up with a few other local photographers to drink delicious espresso and get to know each other!

One thing I LOVE about Katrina is her perseverance. This was SO evident in her move to Arizona. She reached out to creatives in the industry and began creating relationships before she even moved here. She doesn’t just wait for things to happen, she MAKES things happen. She’s brought together the creative wedding industry in Phoenix like I’ve never seen; she has given Phoenix something we didn’t even know we were missing. She’s an encourager and always in pursuit of community over competition.

Give us a brief description of who you are!

We are Blake and Katrina! We are the owners of Scottsdale Farm Tables.  We met in high school, however Blake had his eye on me (Katrina) ever since he was in the 6th grade (that’s a whole other story..), and we have been together ever since!  We are originally from the Seattle area and we made a huge decision to move our life and family to the sunny state of Arizona last year in August.

Where did your inspiration come from to open Scottsdale Farm Tables?

This vision was a fruition of mine (Katrina).  Being self employed as a photographer and taking a huge leap by moving to Arizona, I wanted to make sure that we had a “back up plan” of sorts.  Photography was always my passion and something that Blake fell into but going forth I wanted to make sure this next business venture was something he would thoroughly enjoy.  Since we’ve been together since high school, I understood what that could look like.  I remembered back when he was in wood shop class and said how much he enjoyed working with wood and building things but didn’t think there was a career in it.

So, me being the planner that I am, I woke up at 4am one morning and did a ton of research.  Researched everything from wood types, stains, screws, building supplies and even the flow of the business and woke Blake up at 6am with my findings.  I said, “Honey, I think we need to build farm tables!” Of course he was still trying to wake up and said we would talk about it later and that’s exactly what we did. Two hours later and he agreed!  That’s how the idea started! The actual building began once we moved to Arizona in August of 2015.  Blake wore a beanie to hold his headphones in place and worked in 115 degree heat in our garage for this vision to become a reality…now that is dedication!

Webster Farm Scottsdale Farm Tables Styled Shoot 3What’s unique about your brand/product?

Regarding the look of our tables, the first thing that is unique is the shear size of our tables! Coming in at 10ft and 3 inches in length, we have the longest tables in the industry.  Because the weight is centered versus on the ends, we’re able to comfortably seat more guests than the average table (we’ve had one client seat 16 at one table).  We also build our tables using only douglas fir wood where as many other companies use plywood as their table tops to cut down on weight.  Using douglas fir 2×6’s, we have character including knots and wood grain that you won’t find in another company’s product.

Another aspect that sets us apart is our customer service.  Not only are we the business owners and builders but we are also the ones that will be there to deliver your tables!  We only take 1-2 events each weekend and work hand in hand with our clients to ensure they have the best experience ever!  Our delivery fee includes not only the delivery and pickup BUT we also set up, dust, polish, and take down. We want to make sure you enjoy your event whether it is a baby shower or wedding. We don’t want you to worry about anything!

How early should brides order tables and benches for their wedding?

If you are planning a wedding during the peak of wedding season in the Phoenix area, the answer is ASAP!  We are currently completely booked for the month of October and are already booking for November and the Spring of 2017. Because we are also wedding photographers, some of our Saturdays during the wedding season will get filled.  During these dates we will NOT be delivering tables.  If you are set on having our beautiful tables at your wedding and it’s at a wedding venue with strict delivery and pickup timelines (most do) contact us to get your quote started asap!  That being said, we do have more flexibility with backyard weddings and events!
