5 Elements That Influence Your Wedding Photos

5 Elements That Influence Your Wedding Photos

There are so many elements that may impact a wedding gallery. While there many more not listed below, in my 10+ years of shooting weddings, these are the common elements that I’ve seen influence wedding photos.

1. Photographer

Every photographer has their own signature approach to shooting and editing a wedding gallery. Find a photographer whose work you love and whose personality fits the vibe you’re looking for!

Easier said than done right? Here are a few quick tips for narrowing down the search for a wedding photographer.

  1. Ask your friends if they loved their photographer and the experience they provided. More often than not, a personal referal will be super helpful.
  2. Narrow down the style of photography you’re looking for. Is their editing style brighter, true to life, or moody? Editing is a spectrum and choosing a photographer whose style and approach you love is important.
  3. I recommend interviewing at least 2 photographers by phone or Facetime before choosing a photographer. This will help you get a vibe for them!

2. Location

Your wedding venue will be in the majority of your photos. Pay attention to the colors and textures you see. A botanical garden, desert location, and warehouse venue will each have a unique vibe that will affect your photos.

3. Wedding Colors

The color of your venue, decor, table settings, flowers, suits, and dresses will all affect the overall tone of your photos. Envision your wedding colors and photographer’s editing style together for a magical combo!

4. Energy

The attitude of your wedding party, family, and guests can bring a whole new energy into your photos. If the wedding vibes are chill and relaxed, that will be felt in your photos. If everyone has high energy and it’s a party all day, that’ll come through in your photos too!

5. Weather

Weather can affect the way your wedding photos turn out! A bright and sunny day will edit differently compared to a moody, cloudy day. Stay open to what comes and be present no matter what weather your wedding day brings. Trust your vendors – they got you!
