As I begin to write Mauricio and Alex’s story, I feel like my words won’t be sufficient to describe their one-of-a-kind wedding day. It was truly unlike anything I’ve experienced, and I’m a better wife, photographer, and friend because of it. So I’ll try my best to share their story. 😉
Mauricio and Alex first met in Bali where Alex took a paragliding lesson from Mauricio. She was on sabbatical from Sydney, exploring the island while practicing yoga. He was living and working in Bali. After exchanging information and reconnecting again later in Nepal, they quickly realized this was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of love. They spent time traveling, exploring, and quickly falling in love.
Mauricio and Alex spent the weeks leading up to their elopement exploring the US in an epic road trip. They began in sunny Florida and headed west, sharing their adventures on Instagram. During their road trip, they decided Sedona would be the perfect place to elope. Alex’s parents flew in for the weekend and although her brother originally couldn’t make it, he surprised her at breakfast by pretending to be the waiter. How adorable is that?!
One of my favorite aspects of Mauricio and Alex’s elopement is their ceremony, beautifully officiated by Shanandoah from Sterling Weddings in Sedona. She created a unique experience specifically for Mauricio and Alex, incorporating their love for all things natural with Native America influences; the earth, sun, wind, and rain. We also experienced ALL of these during their ceremony, a little rain and a little sun. Shanandoah created several mini-ceremonies to share their love story and provide blessing over their marriage. My favorite mini ceremony was toward the end; Shanandoah wrapped them both in a wedding blanket, held above the ground, symbolizing how they’ll honor one another’s qualities and strengths. Towards the end, Shanandoah gave Mauricio and Alex the ceremonial guide she had been speaking from, perfectly imperfect with rain drop smudges. It was the perfect ending to their ceremony.
A few days after their elopement, Mauricio and Alex continued on their roadtrip to the Northwest and now call Boulder, Colorado home. The perfect place for this adventurous couple. <3
