SF Adventurous Trip

San Francisco will always hold a special place in my heart. It by no means is the perfect city, but that’s why I connect with it. There’s an energy and excitement that’s felt when you walk the city streets. One of my favorite parts of The City is the diversity. There’s authentic culture on every corner, Chinese markets and Vietnamese sandwich shops and the best sushi you ever did have. Coffee is in endless supply and it’s a normal day on the bus to hear a fellow city dweller speak a foreign language. It’s apart of the city’s DNA. It’s San Francisco.

After living in SF for a year (summer of ’13-’14) I knew this was a city I’d always come back to, even for a quick visit. Last week I packed my bags and spent the week in SF alongside one of my closest friends, Meghan. I spent my mornings editing, emailing, and staying on top of things, while the remainder of my days were spent exploring and drinking INSANE amounts of mocha lattes. But how could I not?! It’s SO good there.

If you followed my adventures on Snapchat (suzyvphoto) last week, you’ll recognize some of these fun moments from my trip. Here’s a recap of the adventures I had!

San Francisco California Contraband Latte CoffeeMy first day in SF ended perfectly with a small show at the Swedish American Hall to experience Before the Brave and Joseph, two amazing local bands. It was basically the best way to start my week long trip. If you’re into 3 part harmonies and sweet lyrics, definitely check them out!

SF CA Swedish American Hall Joseph in ConcertMeg and I’s afternoons were spent exploring our favorite neighborhoods. While in the Marina, we stumbled upon this gorgeous green alley that mysteriously lead us to a garden-like space behind a few buildings. I’m sure I walked by it a hundred times when I lived there, so it was fun to experience something new! And of course, we took a bunch of photos in said green alley. 😉

SF CA Marina Neighborhood Hidden GardenWhen I first moved to SF, Catherine and Laura were my roommates in SoMa. We found one another through Reality’s roommate website and it was a perfect match! These girls are the real deal and I’m SO glad they came into my life. We had a fun roommate reunion dinner and even added another one of their past roomies!
Laura is wrapping up PT school as we speak and Catherine is killin’ it at Kiva and loving city life. Despite the crazy hair and awful lighting, this photo represents so much to me. 🙂

SF CA RoommatesOne of the most nostalgic pieces of my trip was visiting Fitbit, my first workplace after graduating ASU. I hands down 100000% LOVED working for this company. I had an amazing boss, incredible coworkers, and loved knowing I was apart of something bigger than myself. Since leaving Fitbit, the company has grown leaps and bounds. I was once on a shipping team of 2, and now that team has 10(ish)! It feels really great to know I will always have a family there. During my visit I even found a photo of me from a team building event on the wall!

San Francisco California Fitbit Head QuartersDuring my trip I pulled out my camera for some fun! I had an engagement session early in the week at Golden Gate Park (see that blog here!) and then later I took Meghan and Yama out for some creative portraits at Mount Davidson. See those final photos here! Karl the Fog decided to hid out so we had clear skies and sunshine coming through the trees!

SF CA Mount Davidson That SF TREEOn the list of new places to explore, the General Store was at the top. This tiny greenhouse is plastered all over instagram and a popular spot for neighbors to hang out. We did a mini photoshoot inside with our iphones, cause you know, we had to. 😉

There were a few restaurants that we HAD to visit. One is Proposition Chicken, they serve delicious gf fried chicken. And next in line was Chantal Guillon, a french macaron shop in Hayes Valley. They are the BEST.

SF CA French Macarons Chantal GuillonMike and I also took a stroll in our old neighborhood, Pac Heights, and saw our old apartment building. Let me tell you, we definitely don’t miss living in 300 sq feet. Ha!

SF CA Pacific Heights Broderick and ClaySan Francisco CA Photographer TripThis trip was exactly what my soul needed. Mike and I have been in a season of transition for several months while he looks for full time employment. We’ve both been freelance artists for roughly the past 6 months (which is still crazy to me!) and although it has benefits, I’ve been wondering how long this season will last. We’re definitely lacking the consistent community that comes from Mike working full time at a local church. We’re ready to settle down again with deep roots. This trip hit my soul with encouragement and refreshment and I’m hopeful there’s something great ahead for us.
