Top 5 Coffee Shops in Phoenix

Top 5 Coffee Shops in Phoenix
Guest Post by Diana Martinez

As I sit in the coolness of Lola Coffee in central Phoenix on a warm afternoon, I can’t help but be thankful for so many quality retreats such as this one in my city. Whether you call Phoenix home, are visiting for an upcoming wedding, or planning a trip the Valley, finding great places for coffee, and a little reprieve is a must.

I’ll admit it. I’ve been to almost all of the coffee shops that have popped up over the past 5 to 10 years in the Phoenix area—so I’m especially excited about the coffee community here, it’s growth, and building recognition.

While I love nearly every local shop in town, here’s a handful of some of my favorites:

Futuro

A Southwestern minimalist’s dream

As the physical face of Palabra—my hair salon for the past 5+ years and a beloved art space near Roosevelt Row—Futuro’s clean space lets the all-Spanish menu of 49th Parallel espresso, cascara teas, and artful pastries from leDinersaur take it’s deserved spotlight. Not to mention, aqua frescas (real-fruit juice drinks) make an appearance for summer.

Kream Coffee

Small but mighty.

Newer to the uptown Phoenix area, Kream is the créme de la créme. Tucked inside For the People on Central Avenue just north of Camelback, Kream’s bright and clean corner of the modern boutique is perfect for a quiet afternoon cappuccino. Plus, the walk-up window, makes early morning coffee runs easy and quick.

 Royal Coffee Bar

The Biltmore’s gem

With four locations in the Valley, two of which are in Phoenix, Royal has some of the best locally roasted espresso. If you find yourself strolling around the Biltmore, check out the new walk-up window or it’s more spacious location just a quick walk over to the Red Door Spa. Vegan treats are also a plus.

Biltmore location: 2502 E Camelback Rd

Lux Central

The multi-tasker.

If you’ve spent any time in Phoenix and love coffee, you’ve probably frequented this place or have heard of it. Arguably one of the most popular in town, Lux offers locally roasted beans, a full breakfast, lunch and dinner menu and some seriously good cocktails. Night owls rejoice, because Lux is open past midnight. Get an order of the mac and cheese while you’re at it. Visitors tip, be prepared for long lines.

Lola Coffee

For a neighborhood-feel.

On a dreamy corner in a historic building in downtown Phoenix, Lola Coffee serves in-house roasted coffee and delicious pastries with quiet, classy feels. With new art rotated on their walls, a shaded patio, and high ceilings, Lola offers a different vibe that can be best summed up in a perfect mesh of city and neighborhood. It’s ideal for a morning brunch, some solo downtime and also offers the prettiest afternoon light.
