Interview with The Bare Bride Founder // Sharon

My introduction to The Bare Bride came several months ago when my friend Amanda told me about a small biz on Instagram she believed would be right up my alley; and friends, she was right. In just a few moments of scrolling their feed, I connected immediately with their mission. The Bare Bride has a passion for brides to find peace during their engagement, to focus on what truly matters most: a deep, meaningful marriage. It’s a resource I only wish was available when I was engaged.

I don’t want a single bride to miss out on the authentic message Sharon and The Bare Bride have for the world. Sharon began The Bare Bride with the hopes that women around the world would rediscover the heart of being a bride and she’s killing it. We’ve partnered together online in the past and I’ll support Sharon through the end of time. I’m honored to gift each of my 2018 brides with their very own guided journal from The Bare Bride, taking them through the journey of becoming a wife and preparing for marriage.

Sharon, thank you for sharing your heart and following your dreams to bring peace and mindfulness to women around the world. I’m grateful to call you friend and treasure the work you do and who are you are. May we all continue learning and growing together.

Interview with Sharon, founder of The Bare Bride

How long have you been married and where do you call home?

Jake and I sealed the deal on a perfect fall day in 2014, we’ve been married for 2.5 years. We currently live on the perfectly quaint and earthy coast of Maine and if I had my way, I’d never leave.

What was your favorite part of being engaged? What’s your favorite part of marriage?

Hands down – the anticipation of marrying my dream fella was my favorite part about my engagement. A lot of the other aspects of my engagement were unpredictable and unsteady. My future marriage was the one thing I knew I could hold onto. And for that, my heart always felt full of gratitude, even in the midst of the wedding mess.
My favorite part of marriage has been the freedom and healing that it brings to both of us. A lot of people refer to marriage as “settling down” or “getting tied down,” but nothing has ever made me feel as empowered and excited to grow, travel, learn, heal, and explore with my wings spread than my relationship with Jake.

Name a few things you love:

I love cool mornings at the beach, learning about chickens and gardens (my dream is to own a little farm one day!), talking shop with biz pals, nights in with my guy, yoga, fresh sushi, fresh bread, and fresh lemonade.

Are you an introvert or extrovert?

I am 95% introvert (and still learning how to embrace that as an outgoing person) but sit me down, one-on-one with a heart-centered, kind human who has great stories and exciting ideas and I will soak up all. that. energy until I’m about to burst.

Also dogs. Dogs give me energy. Does that count?!

What’s The Bare Bride and when was it started? Where did your inspiration come from to launch it?

The Bare Bride is a business devoted to instilling mindfulness and heart-centeredness within the lives of brides, the brands of professionals, and the industry as a whole. It officially launched January 2016 but the idea + inspiration had been brewing for a while.
When I was a bride I felt minimized and alone. After I opened a little vintage bridal shop, I was hearing the *same* stories from brides. Stories of loneliness, confusion, and feeling excluded from the “Barbie portrait” of what it means to be a bride in our stereotypical, shallow culture.
So I chose to follow my gut, entrepreneurial instinct and meet a deeper need that focuses on the heart and the real-life happenings of an engaged woman through a new kind of bridal business that digs beneath the materialistic surface and honors the bride’s heart above all else.

How can brides connect with you and The Bare Bride? What resources do you offer?

Brides can find me at thebarebride.com, @thebarebride on Instagram, and at The Bare Bride on Pinterest! (Please say hi! I love making new pals.)
I have some incredible heart-centered resources for brides including free weekly love letter emails, The Heart of the Bride Guided Journal, a down-to-earth blog, and even some classes for the heart of the bride.

How is The Bare Bride different from other resources like The Knot and Wedding Wire?

OOH great question! The Knot and Wedding Wire and most other wedding resources out there are primarily about the ins and outs and practicalities of planning a wedding – all important things. But The Bare Bride looks at the heart first – in all things.

There are enough resources out there about DIY centerpieces and coordinating bridesmaids outfits but what about the bride’s wellness? Healthy relationships? Investing in future marriage above all else? Struggling with toxic mindsets? Facing anxiety and depression? Claiming your power to heal and grow and bloom where you want? That’s where The Bare Bride comes in.

Who is The Bare Bride for?

There are many topics covered by The Bare Bride about boundaries, relationships, mindfulness, and wellness that pertain to *all women* – single, dating, engaged, married, divorced. While I do cater specifically to the bride’s needs within those topics, all women are welcome and have a seat at The Bare Bride table where they can nourish their souls by simply making room for the heart.
